Work and a thirst for adventure brought me to Turkey. The country’s charm made me want to stay despite many not-so-charming circumstances. In a culture that doesn’t always seem to value planning, everything sure worked out at the right place and the right time for me to meet and eventually marry the love of my life. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the yabanci (foreigner) trying to figure out what the heck she’s gotten herself into! At the end of every rant, triumph, meltdown, power-struggle, victory, SNAFU, culture-clash and faux-pas, I am reminded of why I came here, and more importantly, why I’ve chosen to stay.
